Dentre outras coisas, o artigo ressalta o fato que muita gente pensa que uma pequena queda no pH dos oceanos, por exemplo de 8.1 para 7.9 é insignificante para justificar todo o barulho que está sendo feito. É importante lembrar porém que a escala utilizada para pedir o pH não é linear. Deste modo uma queda de 0.2 no valor do pH representa na realidade um aumento de 150% na acidez. Vejam a figura abaixo:
